When it comes to building a professional online presence, choosing the right platform is an important business decision for you, and your team, to make. If you're considering professional Webflow development services, understanding the platform's capabilities is crucial

For a tool that balances flexibility, performance, and ease of use, Webflow is a standout option. That said, no platform is perfect, and Webflow might not fit every project.

In this article, I’ll walk you through what makes Webflow unique, the business benefits it offers, and when it may be best to look for another solution.

What is Webflow?

Since 2013 Webflow has been growing as a website experience platform that "gives every team the tools they need for every step of the website lifecycle" - without needing a traditional developer.

It combines the creative capabilities of design tools, like Figma, with the power of a CMS (Content Management System) and hosting services. This unique approach makes it great for businesses seeking ongoing website support, but without the technical headaches.

Unlike drag-and-drop website builders like Framer, Wix or Squarespace, Webflow offers a tonne of customisation, while staying true to the fundamentals of the way the web is built. It allows you to create SEO-friendly, bespoke designs that rival hand-coded websites.

6 reasons why Webflow might be right for your business in 2025

Webflow isn’t just another website builder. It’s designed to meet the demands of modern businesses and offers a range of built in tools like A/B testing, optimisation and analytics to help meet your goals. Here are some of the top reasons businesses choose Webflow:

1. Fast development time

Webflow speeds up the website development process, allowing you to get your site up and running quickly.

The visual canvas - known as Designer - allows you to see straight away what is being built, saving you having to write the code in one environment and run in another. For businesses wanting to update their sites regularly, this visual approach makes content management much more intuitive

And thanks to recent updates, any custom code added to the project can be seen working without having to publish to your domain.

2. Creative freedom

With Webflow, you're not restricted to pre-made templates. You have almost complete control over every design element, which means you can create a website that perfectly reflects your brand's unique identity. This level of customisation is particularly valuable for custom Webflow development projects where brand differentiation is crucial

3. SEO-friendly features

Webflow was designed with SEO as a core feature. It allows you to manage meta titles and descriptions, optimise site performance, and configure URL structures, schema markup, indexing rules, and redirects, all without needing additional plugins. For businesses with specific questions about Webflow's SEO chops, these built-in features often address common concerns

Another win for SEO is being able set a unique canonical tag for any static page. Canonical tags help search engines avoid confusion when you have similar or duplicate content spread across different URLs.

For example, if you have two landing pages:

  • example.com/solar-for-homeowners
  • example.com/solar-for-businesses

…and both pages say basically the same thing (just tweaked slightly in tone or case studies), then Google sees them as very similar. To avoid confusion, and to make sure one page gets full credit in search rankings, you use a canonical tag. So you tell search engines: “These pages are variants, but please treat example.com/solar as the main one.” That way:

  • You keep tailored pages for different audiences (better for users)
  • But you consolidate SEO authority to a single, canonical page (better for rankings)

4. Built-in hosting

Managing, backing up and updating hosting services can be a major hassle, but here is some good news: Webflow takes care of all of that for you. This is particularly beneficial for businesses that prefer ongoing website maintenance through retainer services rather than handling technical aspects in-house.

Webflow provides reliable, fast, secure and scalable hosting powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Cloudflare. This means your site will load quickly, thanks to a global CDN, stay secure, and experience minimal downtime.

5. Accessibility

Webflow makes it easier to create websites that follow accessibility standards like WCAG guidelines. This means your site can be enjoyed by a broader audience, including those with disabilities.

Many Webflow elements are accessible right out of the box. Elements like tabs, dropdown, section, image need no extra code to make them screen reader and keyboard accessible.

6. Scalability

Whether you're building a small landing page or a complex e-commerce store, Webflow is designed to grow with you. Its CMS collections and third-party integrations make it a scalable option for businesses of all sizes.

summary

Webflow is a versatile website platform combining design tools, CMS features, and hosting services, offering customisation, SEO-friendly features, and accessibility. Ideal for businesses needing fast development, creative control, and scalability, it’s well-suited to modern needs but may not fit all projects.

When Webflow may not be the best option

While Webflow offers plenty of benefits, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.

1. Larger commerce stores

Webflow’s commerce tools work well for small and medium-sized businesses, boutique stores and those with a limited range of products.

However, at the moment, larger stores with extensive inventories, lots of shipping options, or complex features may find platforms like Shopify or Magento more suitable.

2. Limited budgets

Webflow’s pricing can be higher than some alternatives, especially for businesses on a tight budget. If affordability is a priority, WordPress, with its low-cost hosting options, might be a better fit.

3. Custom backend needs

Webflow is great for marketing sites and some web applications, but if you need advanced backend functionality—like custom APIs, or detailed database management—it may fall short. A custom-coded solution or WordPress with specialised plugins may be more appropriate in these cases.

4. Extensive content needs

Even though international companies like Dell, Dropbox, Spotify and TED use Webflow, websites with thousands of dynamic pages or complex CMS structures, may find Webflow’s current capabilities limiting. Try WordPress or Drupal if you need to handle heavy content loads.

So...who could use Webflow?

Webflow’s versatility makes it a great choice for a variety of businesses and industries. Here are a few examples of where it excels:

Startups

Startups need speed and flexibility, and Webflow delivers on both. It’s perfect for fast-moving businesses that needs content up and running quickly.

Some examples: Mural , AngelList

Digital agencies

Agencies love Webflow for its flexibility and ability to create custom designs with little or no coding. It’s a popular choice for agencies offering white-label services to their clients.

Some examples: Hunt, Gather , Funsize

Smaller businesses

For smaller enterprises, Webflow delivers a balance of user-friendliness and robust features. It will come as no surprise that it is my go to choice for building a professional digital presence for my clients. Whether you're operating a local business or delivering expert services.

Webflow's interface might take some getting used to, but with strong community and customer support, it's accessible for business owners without technical skills, making website management easy.

Commerce stores

While Webflow isn’t ideal for massive online stores, it’s an excellent option for small to medium-sized commerce businesses. It offers features like custom checkouts - often very restricted in commerce platforms -  product galleries, and simple inventory management.

Making the Right Choice for Your Business

Webflow offers a compelling combination of design flexibility, built-in functionality, and scalability that makes it an excellent choice for many businesses. However, the platform's full potential is often realized when you have the right strategy and support in place.

Why Webflow stands out

Webflow’s combination of creative freedom, robust performance, and scalability gives it an edge over platforms like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace. Unlike WordPress, which often relies on third-party plugins for features like SEO or responsiveness, Webflow provides these tools natively—so you don’t need to worry about maintaining extra software.

That said, if your project requires highly specialised functionality or comes with tight budget constraints, WordPress or other platforms might still be worth exploring.

Quick answers

You might have a few questions about Webflow or how I work as a UK Webflow developer. If these aren't the questions, or the answers, you are looking for please email me.

Webflow business plans start at $39/month for the Business plan, with Enterprise options available for larger organisations requiring advanced features. However, most SME businesses can operate on the $23/month CMS plan.

I wouldn't say Webflow is better than Wordpress, necessarily. The platform used depends on the project.

However, I would say that Webflow offers visual development without the code dependencies. It has Cloudflare hosting built-in, and excellent security. Unlike WordPress, there's no need for plugins that can slow down your site or create security vulnerabilities.
